Writing

Usually when I am ready to write my next book I have an idea of what I want to write about.

I make an outline and all my ideas and proceed. With book 4 I threw caution to the wind and decided to wing it. My daughter and I were walking one night along the trail and everything just came together.

What started out as a rabbit moving about in the woods turned into something sinister lurking about. Could those footsteps behind us be someone following us? Laughter turned into screams. How well do you really know your neighbors? What really happens behind closed doors?

During that three mile walk I had the storyline completely done. Thankfully I had my iPhone with my and while we walked I had everything recorded. I found its not that easy for me to type and walk.

The next night I decided to try and walk one more time. My MS was acting up so I knew I wouldn’t be able to do a whole 3 miles but we did manage to do a little over a mile. That is all I needed though. During that walk I had managed to get the main characters figured out. They plot was one that I was really excited about.

I’m starting to think I may need to just “wing it” with a few more books.

Currently I am working on my 5th book. It is an idea I have had for a while but I’m realizing it is not coming together as easy as the last book. Maybe I need to go walking again. It’s just so hot right now that the very idea of stepping outside depresses me. Maybe I’ll just go for a drive instead.
